Check out Windows Mobile 6.5 new looks

That's the way (a-ha a-ha) I like it! (a-ha a-ha).

Look at the Windows Mobile 6.5 look - Welcome to 2009, baby!

At last, the 'Start' button is in the bottom, close/OK buttons are at the bottom right corner as they should (this is the easiest location for the thumb), transparency, Android, iPhone, BlackBerry - say hello to your new friend: sure he's old, sure he's a bit outdated, but at least now WinMo he has a hot looks.

BTW, I believe the soft menus should be improved - they are too small to fit a long text and their shape can use some improvements too.

BTW x 2: I believe there will finally be a standard "running programs" UI - check our this screenshot:

What I find most interesting is how much WM 6.5.1 (or whatever it's going to be called -- the finger friendly 6.5 coming out that these pics show) is really going to look a heck of a lot like WM 7. The thinner title bar, the buttons all along the taller bottom, finally a decent built-in transparency API in GDI (it was so hard to do that previously). Now the whole "6.5 is still going to exist" strategy makes much more sense. MS is going for a unified look, even if the finger-friendly 6.5 is not going to be as powerful under-the-hood.

I'm liking this. With the thinner title bar, the drawable application area looks to be unchanged from 6.1, so it won't break existing apps depending on the same screen area.

This is one of the things that Microsoft does best: backwards compatibility. Here we see what is essentially the same Windows Mobile we've had for over ten years, but within a year, it looks as good as anybody else's phone OS, while maintaining its backward compatibility with all the great software developed for it so far.

Good job, MS!

"6.5 is still going to exist" should read "6.5 is still going to co-exist"
