Windows Mobile 6.5.3 - Quietly Released

Windows-Mobile-6-5-3

After getting spanked by almost every respected tech / blogger with the release of Windows Mobile 6.5, it seems like Microsoft has decided to keep a low profile with the almost confidential release of Windows Mobile 6.5.3.

Version 6.5.3 has already quietly been released to manufacturing in December of 2009, according to a reliable source. There will be no announcement of this version. It will simply show up on shipping products whenever manufacturers are ready.

As you can see the top area was completely replaced with a smaller notifications bar. Clicking on it opens up a new improved notifications window.

In the bottom area, the traditional OK/X button now falls into the bottom right corner, the 2 soft menus are still located in a similar manner, and the start menu is now where it should be in the bottom left corner…

All of those buttons are now completely finger friendly.

I must say I really like the changes Microsoft did, especially placing the OK or X button in the lower area, making it much easier to reach it with the thumb.

I've tried installing the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 SDK and found that applications run seamlessly without facing any issues caused by the new user interface.

ClickMobile, the product I'm responsible of (in my real life) is running nicely on WinMo 6.5.3 and I found the new modifications extremely usable.
