I am currently at the Mobile World Congress, and if you happen to be in the neighborhood you probably know the place is huge, and by huge I mean seriously HUGE.
It’s so huge you probably can’t cover it all by foot in one day. You need two days at least. And you need a map. It’s also so packed with sessions and events that it’s really hard to keep track of all the activities.
To make my life easier (and happier), I downloaded the MWC iPhone app. It has everything you need inside: list of exhibitors, sessions agenda, key speakers, maps, everything.
Unfortunately I found (and by looking at the other visitors – they all would agree) that there are things where the new technology cannot replace the good old paper… you can pack everything inside one little app, but it has to be more than that to make it extremely convenient.
Bottom line? 99% of the people here have fancy smartphones yet they are all walking around with the most ancient location-based app, with antique-style augmented reality, endless battery life and may other features: the paper map…
