Great looking TouchFlo themes by PROBEX

themeblue2

I just love great looking art stuff, especially when they combine with Windows Mobile.

XDA-Developer PROBEX has designed amazing looking theme for TouchFlo II (see picture above) called AlienXTream. I just love it!

preview-alienxtream

Unfortunately this theme cannot be ported back to the original version of the TouchFlo, but I did find previous work of PROBEX which also looks great, and will work on TouchFlo3D (the original version we all have in our Diamond, Pro, and Fuze...

Check out some of the screen-shots:

alianx6 alianx1 alianx2 alianx3 alianx4 alianx5

There are also a blue and orange themes available to download:

orangeorange2themeblue

The developer has requested to keep the original CAB links so he can keep track of the download numbers, and I would like to to respect his request, so here are the links to the original threads, you will be able to find the download link there.

File: TF7X-by-PROBEX.zip (original location)

Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=490560

Looking for more themes? Click here.

Enjoy!

Which device will be most widely adopted in the Enterprise in 2009?

Mr. Mobile which used to be a WinMo blog (but not any longer, as most of the posts now concentrate on iPhone), has posted about a poll conducted by LinkedIn, in which readers had to answer the question:

What will be the most widely adopted device in Enterprise in 2009?

Funny, but before that post, winMo was in the third place, long after BlackBerry and iPhone, but I guess most of Mr. Mobile's readers are still Windows Mobile fans, and now the results look slightly different:

linkedin

In regard to the poll itself, I find it hard to believe that iPhone will be so well adopted in enterprise, because of the nature of the phone and the price. I would gamble on Android and BlackBerry of course.

What are your thoughts?

2 Samsung devices leaked

2 leaks from Samsung, both of them relates to devices running windows mobile (yippie!).

First leak: Samsung B74300.

gsmarena_004

Looking great, this phone will luckily run Windows Mobile, hold a 3MP auto focus camera, and probably (as seen in the picture) run the latest TouchWiz UI. I would call it OmniaHD but for some reason Samsung insisted that the new Omnia will run Symbian...

Second Leak: Samsung Mondi

samsung_swd-m100_mondi

This strange looking fellow is probably the Samsung Mondi, features a 4.3 inch touchscreen, slide out QWERTY, and — (drums-drums-drums-drums) - 4G WiMAX.

"Bwabic-Bwabic" (said the frog)

I like the funny keyboard, don't you? It looks more like an UMPC device to me, but check this out: it is assumed to run Windows Mobile as well... Coo-hool!

Tweak of the week(end): See more appointments in your TouchFlo3D home screen

(That's one hell of a title...)

One of the things I don't like in TouchFlo3D is not being able to see your next appointments in the home tab.

Like, come on HTC, it's Windows Mobile, not just one of those toys for kids right? We need to be able to see our meetings in a snapshot!

We are serious people here, we need to... wait... what's that? Hey!? Is that TouchFlo3D with smaller clock and a list of appointments?

Wow, that's a coincidence, it fits like a glove to my long title!

apps-thumb

Oh, and here's an example of removing the call history!

T-Mobile

To download this tweak, head over this this XDA thread, download and install the CAB files.

Enjoy!

Palm Treo 750 running Windows Mobile 6.5!

WinMo65

Palm Treo 750 used to be my favorite windows mobile phones. It's fast, it feels great in the hand, it has a lot of hard keys and a built in QWERTY keyboard, it has good performance but also good stability.

It was the first windows mobile device to become my personal phone and if it wasn't for that WiFi (which isn't there...) I would never let it go...

But guess what, XDA-Developers brought some glory back to this old phone, just before people completely forget how great it used to be.

As you can see above, Windows Mobile 6.5 is now running on Palm Treo 750! sweeeet!

032109165642 032109165704

You can download and install the ROM from here.

But, as written in WMExperts, you need to remember the following:

"hacking your phone is bad, unofficial, not necessarily legal, may cause joint pain and loosen teeth, is not safe for small children and some animals, and almost assuredly won't help you with the opposite sex."

MoDaCo NoData

jhjhk

Here's something (old) for those of you who are using an older version of winMo phone, you know, one of those who are not well equipped with manufacturers add-ins and a fancy shell...

NoData lists your GPRS connections, and allows you to disable them so that they won't be used.

It's every traveler's nightmare: having your foreign trip only to come home to a gigantic phone bill because your smartphone connects to the internet every 5 minutes to check for mail, RSS news items or weather updates. And data connections in an other country than your own can be pretty expensive. MoDaCo NoData lets you disable all data traffic without disabling the phone functions in a single tap.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Graphics Video: Drooling Is Assured!

As many of you already know, Qualcomm has a new processor called the Snapdragon that has caught a lot of attention because of the Toshiba TG01 that I recently reported on. (CLICK HERE) There is no denying that the TG01 packed with the 1ghz Snapdragon packs a punch. But the only thing that video displayed was the new Toshiba User Interface, which for me, did almost nothing. Today we have the real goods on what the Snapdragon can do in the following video:

Impressive right? Well, as many of you know, Qualcomm faced a ton of criticism along with HTC about the whole driver debacle. Lot’s of finger pointing ensued and the short version of what happen, or as near as I can tell is that HTC was reluctant to purchase the necessary drivers and features that were available in Chipsets like the 7200 and 7500 series. So did Toshiba ante up for the full menu of Qualcomm Snapdragon Drivers and features? It sure appears that way. Will HTC also learn from their past mistakes? With the HTC releasing the Thoth, a Qualcomm Snapdragon equipped beast of a device, we can only hope that drivers will be included!

Twitter. What are you really doing with it?

As you can see from my Twitter updates, I'm not that keen of the idea of twittering.
I mean, I just don't see myself reporting my activities to people I barely know, it's strange!
Besides, if I want to share something important, I can always post about it in my blog! So here it is, something I would like to share with you: a nice joke about Twitter!

Enjoy the video:

More Windows Mobile 7 Screenshots

How better to end a week of Mobility news than with some more screenshot goodness on Windows Mobile 7! Check it out:

wm75-thumb1

wm74-thumb1

  wm73-thumb1

Things look to be really coming together for WinMo and we may finally have the release we have been waiting for after poor showings with 6.1 and the yet to be released 6.5. Does the Zune and IM UI look killer or what? Let us know what you think! Drop a comment on what you have seen so far!

History of PDAs - Part #2

History2 copy

Our journey to learn the history of PDA's continues and if you haven't read the first chapter yet - go ahead! There will be a short quiz at the end!

History of PDAs - Part #1

History of PDAs: Part #2

This chapter begins with 1996, and boy what a year it was: Palm, Symbian, Windows CE and who knows what else! Check it out:

1996: First Smartphone by Nokia:

nokia-9000 9000a

In 1996 Nokia introduced the first mobile phone with full PDA functionality, the 9000 Communicator, which has since grown to become the world's best-selling PDA and which spawned a category of phones called the smartphone.

Of course, after a while, Nokia took over Psion's Symbian OS (see first chapter of the History of PDA's) and it is now the OS used in all of its' smartphones.

Still 1996: PalmPilot is in the house!

 Palmpilot5000_eu

In that exact same year, Palm released their own PDA called PalmPilot. (The name later on was replaced due to trademark infringement lawsuit brought by the Pilot Pen Corporation to Palm but the name PalmPilot remained synonym for PDAs).

The original purpose of Palm was to create handwriting recognition software for other devices, named Graffiti, but their research convinced them they could create better hardware as well.

Palm's handhelds initially ran on the popular DragonBall processors, a Motorola 68000 derivate. More recent models are using a variation of the popular ARM architecture.

palmOS

For 13 years Palm has developed PDAs and smartphones, but it seems like 2009 is going to become a major milestone for Palm with the release of the Palm Pre

Still 1996: It's Windows CE!

While Nokia and Palm unleashed their beasts, a small unfamiliar company (named Microsoft), released an unknown operating system called Windows CE for minimalistic computers and embedded systems. Designed to work with less than 1 megabyte of memory, Windows CE became the basis of the later to come PocketPC and Windows Mobile PDAs.

workabout_pro With Windows CE one can develop robots, industrial controllers, gas station pumps, voting machines, kiosks, POS terminals, video games, medical equipment, digital music players, interactive televisions, Internet appliances, cameras, etc. but most of us are familiar with it around PDA's. Some industrial PDAs are still running Windows CE.

Read more about the differences between CE and PocketPC in here.

1999: Handspring Visor:

3 years later, in 1999, Palm continues to rock in the PDAs zone, and with the Palm V it seems like Palm's PDAs (still with green screens by the way) are sexier than ever!

But, at the same time, 3 unhappy people who actually founded Palm and invented the PalmPilot (Jeff Hawkins, Donna Dubinsky, and Ed Colligan) decide to leave Palm and found a new company called Handspring Visor.

Handspring Visor released the first Visor PDA in '99 and after a few years they started with the Treo line of products.

handspring

(The amazing thing in the picture above is that you can actually see some of the familiar Treo UI concepts in that old Visor device. Same buttons style, same tabs concept. And to think that it was released 10 years ago!)

Look how identical are the different calendar applications:

handspring_visor_edge PalmTrioCalendar_1

2000: First try, PocketPC 2000:

e125

What's this? Is that a today screen? What year are we? Oh, I see, it's almost 10 years ago... they way things are changing... or not.

The first version of the PDA which was based on Windows CE was released in the same year bug 2000 hit the entire universe... (OK, maybe most of it is real, except for the bug part...).

One of the biggest problem with it was that it was not finger friendly, but since no one knew back then what it means, it didn't make any difference.

The first version did not create the desired buzz, but will Microsoft give up on their PocketPC or will they continue to invest in it?

And what do you think of that today screen? Will it succeed or will it vanished eventually? How about adding widgets capabilities to it and calling it... plug-ins?

(More about it in the next chapter of the History of PDA's)

To be continued...

Great sound quality with SRS WOW HD

6

Here's a good freeware if you use your WinMo 6 device for listening to music.

In short, SRS WOW HD software enhances the audio quality and makes it sound better through the speaker or ear plugs.

Here's what SRS had to write about it:

"SRS WOW HD, ideal for mobile music applications, provides fidelity to digitally compressed music through the use of patented, psychoacoustic techniques. SRS WOW HD creates an ultra wide sound field with richer lows and brighter highs so consumers are engaged in an immersive, more realistic audio experience. Windows Mobile device makers have been using SRS WOW HD not only to deliver superior 3D stereo and bass listening experience for music over headphones, but it is also a very useful tool to tune the sound quality of the speaker(s) built into the handset. Using SRS Labs’ proprietary psychoacoustic techniques, people are able to perceive improved sound imaging with improved high and low frequencies."
